Attention Zion Youth and Parents!
Preparations are underway for Zion youth to attend the 2018 ELCA Youth Gathering in Houston Texas, June 27-July 1, 2018. If you are interested in attending the Gathering, here are two information pieces you'll want to check out:
The Gathering is an event that every youth should consider putting on the timeline of their faith journey!
Zion's Gathering trip is open to students currently in grades 8-11. Space permitting, we may be able to include students currently in grade 7. See the documents above for preliminary details regarding cost, travel schedule, and fundraising plans.
I love the ministry of the Gathering and the way it forms faith in the youth of our church. I'll never forget my first ELCA Youth Gathering as a 9th grader. I still remember my sense of awe to be part of such a large crowd of youth as we worshiped and explored faith together. The speakers I heard talked about everyday life and the struggles of our world. The Gathering gave me a better understanding of what it means to live as a Christian, and my sense of "church" exploded far beyond the walls of my congregation. I can't wait to walk with our Zion youth as we explore faith together at the 2018 Gathering in Houston.
To reserve your space on the trip, you'll need to submit a $150 (non-refundable) registration deposit by Friday, September 15, 2017. Please note that preparing for the ELCA Youth Gathering is a year-long commitment. Participants will gather regularly (about once a month) for Bible study and team building, as well as participate regularly in worship and our fundraising efforts.
